Brilliant and Gorgeous: Store onions in a steamer!

by Ivete on June 10, 2009

Today’s Martha Stewart’s Organizing Tip of the Day (yes, I get lots of daily mailing lists, could you tell?) is such a good idea, and so attractive, I just had to post it!

Storing onions and garlic is always a headache for me, they tend to end up piled in the corner next to my cutting board for lack of a better place to put them. I love this steamer storage idea because it hides the items but still looks like something that belongs in the kitchen! The tip says to put a tray underneath to catch the skins, but I think that if I do this I’ll instead line the bottom of the steamer with paper or plastic to keep the skins in, that way I can put the steamer anywhere I want.

I’ve been thinking about installing a floating shelf above my main counter to keep often-used items off the counter itself, maybe I could put this steamer on the shelf . . .
