Ikat Dishtowels – from Crate & Barrel, these dishtowels would go great with my all-white kitchen and its bits of bright color. Knowing C&B though, I’ll be waiting until these go on final clearance before buying!

Morse Code Cutting Boards – Wow. Randomly came across these handmade solid-wood cutting boards and just about swooned. A guy in Brooklyn makes these custom “monogrammed” boards in two shades of wood. The stripes are a visual representation of morse code. So simple, so stunning. Would make a wonderful heirloom wedding present for sure!

Joseph Joseph Garlic Rocker – Found this in the latest issue of Real Simple and its brilliant simplicity drew me in immediately. You use this garlic press “rocker” to mince garlic instead of a traditional press! I may buy this just to see how it compares with my favorite garlic press . . .

Thermapen Thermometer – This is hardly new, but I came across it again recently and remembered that it’s on my eventual to-buy list. A nearly $100 thermometer might seem a bit ridiculous, but I’ve heard only rave reviews about it and have had enough bad thermometers in the past that it makes this one seem like a good investment.

Menu Stackable Oven Dishes – Saw this on Tasting Table, very cool! It’s especially perfect for NYC apartments with 3/4 size ovens . . .

Windowsill Mushroom Garden – Also found through Tasting Table (where they have a 20% off coupon!), this “mushroom garden” grows oyster mushrooms from used coffee grounds and needs only a spritz of water! I already ordered mine and cannot wait for my first harvest.

Microplane Twist Herb Mill – came across this herb mill in March’s Real Simple magazine. It looks pretty great but I’m wondering how much of a pain it is to clean it?

Island Bamboo Cutting Board/Drainer -Also from Real Simple magazine, this board’s design drew me in even before I realized what a cool idea this is. A cutting board with a built-in drainer is pretty cool already, but a collapsible drainer so that you can store it flat? Brilliant! This is going on my must-buy list for sure.

Michael Aram Pomegranate Seder Plate – Saw this in this month’s Bon Appetit magazine and immediately fell in love. Unfortunately by the time I went to check it out, it was already sold out on his site. I did find it at Bloomingdales for $220 though, and there’s still time to buy it before the first night of passover . . .

Joseph Joseph 8-piece set – This particular item has been featured all over already but it didn’t go with my old kitchen so I never gave it much thought. In my new, ultra-modern place with its all-white kitchen, this set is perfect! And so gorgeous it serves double-duty as decoration when not in use. At just over $48 on Amazon, a great deal for so many stylish pieces.

Black and white kitchen diagram towels - Another Etsy find, these handprinted towels feature some of my favorite kitchen gadgets and my beloved Kitchenaid! The black and white sketch makes them modern enough for my new place. Set of 2 for $20.

Flip & Tumble Reusable Produce Bags — 5 bags for under $9.00 (from Amazon) is a great deal! Trying not to use plastic often means using unattractive or imperfect substitutions, but these bags are not only functional, they’re also beautifully designed!

Via NY Times, two drastically different pancakes I can’t wait to try: Heavenly Hots (yes please!) and Kimchi Pancakes.

And speaking of Kimchi, I’m dying to try making my own. My blogging buddy Kevin of Closet Cooking has tried it with good results, so I’m planning to use his simple recipe for my first try. My BFF, who happens to be Korean, will be the true judge of this endeavor!

Jamie Oliver’s Flavour Shaker — I wish it didn’t have such a silly name, but this alternative version of a mortar & pestle seems utterly brilliant! Instead of smashing stuff down you just shake this and the ball inside does the smashing for you. Watch a video on how it works on their site. I want it in yellow (which they call “olive” for some reason) . . .

Greek-Style Potato Skins from Serious Eats — I’ll probably be watching Law & Order reruns instead of the Super Bowl, but I can still eat “sporting event food,” right?

Real Simple’s February 2010 “Five Easy Dinners” section — every single recipe in this section sounds awesome and is now on my short list. I’ve been buying this magazine so often at the newsstands lately that I’m about to order a subscription. Amazon has a special through the end of January that gives you a $5 gift certificate for every subscription you buy . . .

The week after next is Restaurant Week here in NYC. There are even more restaurants on the list this year, making picking only a few a real challenge! Where are you going for Restaurant Week this winter?
